Judge Anthony Cavotta of Stillwater, NY; ethical elf, repeat offender

The State of New York Commission on Judicial Conduct found Tony guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

Tony’s 1st Bite at the Judicial Misfit Tree

  • Convicted a defendant without a plea or trial
  • Knowingly violated one or more defendants’ due process rights
  • Instead of immediately scheduling a trial as the law requires when a defendant in a traffic case pleads not guilty by
  • Mail, Tony routinely required defendants to appear for unauthorized, ex parte (one-sided) conferences.

It is obvious that Tony is of the opinion that “due process” is the manner by which the grass becomes moist in the a.m.

As a direct result of his misconduct, the Judicial Commission punished Tony by gifting him with a complimentary admonition.

Tony’s 2nd Bite at the Judicial Misfit Tree

  • Over a six-year period, Tony failed to adequately supervise his court clerks
  • Failed to discharge his administrative duties diligently
  • Because of Tony’s inadequate supervision, court monies received by the court had not been deposited for several months
  • One or more deposits could not be properly traced due to missing court records
  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Failed to adequately supervise his court clerks

As a direct result of his misconduct, the Judicial Commission punished Tony by gifting him with a complimentary admonition.

As we speak (ca. April 2022), Tony continues to dispense his so-called idea of jurisprudence as a Justice of the Stillwater Town and Village Courts in Stillwater, New York.
