Attorney Yvette M. Barrett of Detroit, MI; cheating slacker

The state of Michigan presented Yvette M. Barrett with a law license in 1998 after she graduated from Ohio State University School of Law.

The Attorney Discipline Board Tri-County Hearing Panel #12 found Yvette guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Charged or collected a clearly excessive fee
  • Failed to keep her client reasonably informed about the status of a matter
  • Commingled client funds with personal funds
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  • Failed to refund an unearned fee paid in advance (cheater)
  • Engaged in conduct contrary to justice, ethics, honesty, or good morals

As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Michigan Supreme Court punished Yvette by gifting her with a complimentary reprimand and assessed costs of $1,495.43.

Additionally, Yvette was ordered to pay $12,500 in restitution to her client (aka, victim).

As we speak (ca. July 2023), Yvette practices her so-called brand of law with the New Level Law Firm PC at 500 Griswold Street in Detroit, Michigan.
