Attorney Dane Ciolino of New Orleans; apologist for judicial misfits, moron, ethically inept
Dane S. Ciolino is a practicing attorney in New Orleans who specializes in ethics and criminal law.
Dane S. Ciolino has also been teaching ethics at Loyola University School of Law in New Orleans since 1993.
Recently, Dane S. Ciolino decided to represent ex-Judge C. Hunter King who was removed from the bench in 2003 by the Louisiana Supreme Court for forcing court employees to sell tickets to a campaign fundraiser and then lying about it under oath (aka, felonious perjury).
In May 2007, Judge C. Hunter King pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit public payroll fraud. In return for his guilty plea, then-District Attorney Eddie Jordan agreed to drop a perjury charge. (Gwen Filosa, The Times-Picayune – 10/21/09)
The Louisiana Supreme Court suspended Judge C. Hunter King’s law license in 2007. The court refused to lift the suspension in 2008.
C. Hunter King is again asking the Supreme Court to reinstate his law license, and in doing so he hired attorney Dane S. Ciolino to represent him before the court. However, the Office of Disciplinary Counsel wants King permanently disbarred. (Times-Picayune)
A hearing on King’s application to regain his law license was held before the Louisiana Supreme Court on Oct. 21, 2009.
At the hearing, Dane S. Ciolino and/or attorney Jeffrey Burg argued that the state Supreme Court never instructed Disciplinary Counsel to “go after him” as a lawyer when it removed him from office. (Times-Picayune)
Dane S. Ciolino then had the chutzpah to state “That conviction [felonious fraud] has been expunged. It does not exist. Forgiveness and redemption matter…” (Times-Picayune)
Attorney Jeffrey Burg went on to say that at worst, King deserves suspension. The former judge admitted his wrongdoing [criminal fraud] and “didn’t have a lot of experience” as a judge when he goaded [no Mr. Burg – he actually ordered] his staff to help him stave off campaign debt. (Times-Picayune)
In response to Mr. Burg’s hyperbolic (BS) comment, Chief Justice Catherine Kimball interjected by saying, “Clearly, perjury is not something that takes a lot of experience to know that you don’t do.” Praise the Lord – the truth will set you free!
The October 21, 2009 Times-Picayune story by Gwen Filosa was titled: “Former Judge C. Hunter King ‘is not a criminal,’ his attorney says.” (http://tinyurl.com/yc8ohsq)
For Dane S. Ciolino to argue that C. Hunter King is not a criminal is analogous to arguing that the late Jeffrey Dahmer was not a carnivore. Moreover, it clearly cements his status as a moron.
The mere thought that Dane S. Ciolino actually earns a living teaching ethics at Loyola University School of Law is laughable at best. Furthermore, for Dane S. Ciolino to tout himself as an expert in legal ethics doesn’t pass the involuntary laugh test.
Hopefully, the Louisiana Supreme Court will treat the arguments of Dane S. Ciolino to reinstate King’s law license with the utter contempt it deserves.
And finally, the good folks in New Orleans deserve much better than having yet another ethical leper-con like Mr. King being granted a law license.
