Attorney Tinya Banks of Norfolk; ethical dwarf

The Virginia State Bar Disciplinary Board found Tinya Lynnette Banks guilty of the following misconduct.
  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Failed to communicate with her client
In one matter, Tinya was appointed to represent Adonis Perry regarding an appellate matter. Tinya failed to timely file the required Petition for Appeal. Subsequently, Tinya filed a request for a 30-day extension of time within which to file the Petition for Appeal; however, the request was denied on the basis that Tinya had failed to provide good cause for failing to file the petition in a timely fashion. Subsequently, the client’s appeal was summarily dismissed the by the court.

Tinya failed to take any further action on her client’s behalf in pursuing his appeal. Tinya did not advise her client of the dismissal of his appeal. She also failed to communicate with her client from the date she was appointed to his case to the time he filed an ethics complaint against her.

Tinya also did not advise her client of his right to pursue a delayed appeal nor did she ever file such an action on his behalf.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Virginia State Bar Disciplinary Board punished Tinya by gifting her with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. March 2013), Tinya practices at 5900 East Virginia Beach Blvd in Norfolk, Virginia.
