Steven’s 1st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree – 2005
Steven was associated with an entity called Gina & Vic, which owns a franchise called The Closing Place. The Closing Place provides settlement agent services in residential real estate closings. The Closing Place sought to engage in such business in Franklin, North Carolina.
Steven then sent letters to realtors which contained statements suggesting that The Closing Place could provide services for real estate closings, including his firms’ legal services, for fees quoted in the letter. Steven’s conduct constituted assisting non-attorneys to engage in the illegal practice of law. Of course Steven absolutely knew that his conduct violated North Carolina law.
As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Disciplinary Commission punished Steven by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.
