Judge Toby Gilley of Murfreesboro, TN; ethical goblin

The state of Tennessee presented Toby Gilley with a law license in 1997 after he graduated from the University of Tennessee School of Law.

The Board of Judicial Conduct found Toby guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Improperly searched internet regarding value of property that was primary point of litigation
  • Failed to act in manner promoting public confidence in the judiciary
  • Failed to avoid impropriety or the appearance of impropriety
  • Violated ethical rules by engaging in a personal investigation of pending legal matter then pending before him

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Judicial Conduct Board punished Toby by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. June 2024), Toby continues to dispense his so-called brand of jurisprudence as a Rutherford County Genera Sessions judge in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
