Judge Melissa Boyd of Memphis, TN; ethical goblin

The State of Tennessee provided Judge Boyd with a law license after she graduated from the University of Louisville School of Law.

FYI: This isn’t Melissa’s First bite at the Judicial Misfit Apple Tree. She previously received two (2) separate complimentary reprimands for engaging in a variety of misconduct.  Details of said misconduct can be found by visiting the URL listed at the end of this article.

The Board of Judicial Conduct found Melissa guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Tested positive for cocaine while awaiting a trial on charges of coercing a witness and harassment
  • Melissa’s bond was revoked after she tests positive for cocaine
  • Failed to comply with agreed terms of a prior suspension
  • Failed to comply with order giving her a final opportunity to address her admitted substance (cocaine) use
  • Observed numerous times smoking marijuana subsequent to election to the bench
  • Melissa admitted to using cocaine off and on for at least a year
  • When Melissa drinks, Melissa becomes aggressive and hostile
  • Failed to cooperate with ethics investigators (Up yours, said Melissa!)
  • Engaged in willful misconduct relating to official judicial duties
  • Engaged in a persistent pattern of irresponsible or injudicious conduct
  • Conduct calculated to bring the judiciary into disrepute
  • Failed to comply with the law (scofflaw)
  • Failed to act in manner promoting public confidence in the judiciary
  • Criminally charged with coercion of a witness and harassment
  • Attempted to influence former campaign manager Lashanta Rudd to testify falsely or withhold truthful testimony in an official proceeding
  • Melissa’s communications with Ms. Rudd were attempts to annoy, alarm or frighten her

As one would suspect, rather than await a decision that would have led to her removal from the bench, Melissa did what most Judicial Misfits do, she resigned from her judicial office.

All that remains now is to see how long it takes for Melissa to cop a plea to reduce the amount of time she’ll likely be spending at the West Tennessee State Penitentiary.

As we speak (ca. June 2024), it is rumored that Melissa has an application pending as a bathroom attendant at the Walmart Supercenter Store at 5255 Elvis Presley Blvd in Memphis, Tennessee.
