Former Judge Mohammed Iya of Nigeria; ethical misfit

The Law Society provided Mohammed Bako Iya with a law license after he graduated from the  University of Nigeria School of Law

The Niger State Judicial Service Commission has found Judge Iya guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Acted as a judge in his own case
  • Used power of his judicial office to facilitate a gainful benefit for his personal interest and private affairs
  • Practically set aside his judicial duties by representing and shielding a suspect from arrest by the police and the court
  • Abused his office to intimidate and collect the sum of N400,000 Fulani Herders whose cattle destroyed his beans farm

As a direct consequence of his conduct, the Judicial Service Commission ordered that Judge Iya be removed from his judicial office.

As we speak (ca. December 2023), it is rumored that Mohammed has an application pending for a job as a bathroom attendant at the Shoprite Nigeria Grocery Store located at Ikeja City Mall, Obafemi Awolowo Way, Ikeja, Nigeria.
