Attorney April D. Conner of Charleston, WV; slacker, loser

The state of West Virginia presented April D. Conner with a law license in 1996 after she graduated from the University of West Virginia School of Law.

The Lawyer Disciplinary Board found April guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Failed to appeal client’s conviction
  • April failed to communicate with her client and his mother despite their repeated attempts to contact her
  • Failed to comply with requests during pre-sentencing
  • April erred by making no contacts with the client’s  family to participate in his sentencing hearing
  • Failed to perfect client appeal pursuant to order from appellate court
  • When the state filed a motion to dismiss the client’s appeal, the appellate court gave April ten days to file the appeal or it would be dismissed, which she failed to do leading to client appeal being dismissed
  • Failed to appear regarding court ordered show cause hearing to determine if she should be held in contempt and/or financially sanctioned for not complying with appellate court orders
  • Court found April in contempt and sanctioned her in the amount of $1,500
  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Violated or attempted to violate the Rules of Professional Conduct, knowingly assisted or induced another to do so, or did so through the acts of another
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  • Failed to bide by a client’s decisions concerning the objectives of representation
  • Failed to safeguard client funds
  • Failed to expedite client litigation
  • Failed to keep her client informed as to the status of her client’s case

As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the West Virginia Supreme Court punished April by gifting her with a complimentary 90-day suspension of her law license.

As we speak (ca. December 20223), April practices her so-called brand of law with the Kanawha County Prosecutor’s Office at 301 Virginia Street in East Charleston, West Virginia.
