Attorney Angel Underwood of Chester, SC; repeat offender

 

The Office of Disciplinary Counsel of the South Carolina Supreme Court found Angel guilty of the following misconduct, all of which related to her dealings involving her husband who was the Chester County Sheriff. 

 

Angel’s 1st bite at the Judicial Misfit Apple Tree

  • Repeatedly handled cases involving the Chester County Sheriff's Department while her husband was Sheriff of Chester County
  • Failed to recuse herself when recusal was required
  • Failed to properly follows court rules on alerting all parties of her relationship with the County Sheriff
  • without properly following the remittal of disqualification requirements

As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the enablers for Judicial Misfits sitting on the South Carolina Supreme Court punished Angel by gifting her with a complimentary reprimand.

 

Angel’s 2nd bite at the Judicial Misfit Apple Tree

  • Accessed the Chester County Sheriff’s Office Facebook account for private tip information and handled sheriff’s office employee disciplinary actions and other actions while her husband was sheriff
  • Angel also sent emails and correspondence on behalf of the sheriff’s office
  • Assisted her husband with drafting a disciplinary action concerning a Sheriff's Department employee
  • Angel used her judicial email account to forward the draft of the disciplinary action to her husband for his review
  • Prepared a letter for the Sheriff's Department in which the Community Services Division recommended a student for a scholarship
  • Failed to act in manner promoting public confidence in the integrity of the judiciary
  • Engaged in a pattern of misconduct
  • Conduct in dealings with Sheriff’s Department created a perception that her ability to carry out her judicial responsibilities impartially was impaired

As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the enablers for Judicial Misfits sitting on the South Carolina Supreme Court punished Angel by gifting her with a complimentary 6-month suspension from the bench.

 

As we speak (ca. August 2022), Angel continues to dispense her so-called idea of jurisprudence as a Chester County Magistrate Court Judge in Chester, South Carolina.
