Attorney Stephen Smith of New Orleans; ethical goblin

The state of Louisiana presented Stephen Michael Smith with a law license in 2002 after he graduated from George Mason University School of Law.

The Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board found Stevie guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Negligently facilitated the unauthorized practice of law
  • Improperly shared fees with non-lawyers
  • Negligently handled his client trust account by failing to maintain complete records and
  • Failed to perform quarterly trust account reconciliations
  • Failed to disburse funds in round numbers
  • Failed to provide a client with a prompt accounting of client funds held in trust

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Louisiana Supreme Court punished Stevie by gifting him with a complimentary 90-day suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. May 2021), Stevie practices his brand of law at 1425 North Broad Street in New Orleans, Louisiana.
