Judge Elaine Mandell of Los Angeles, CA: one of the Good Gals

The state of Californiapresented Elaine W. Mandel with a law license in 1971 after he graduated from California Western University School of Law.

In one matter, Judge Mandell presided over the case of Karton v. Ari Design and Construction Inc., which involved an award of fees to Karton because Ari Design and Construction was an unlicensed contractor.

After judgement was rendered in favor of Karton, attorneys Joe Abramson and David Karton who represented Karton asked the court to award them $287,640 in attorney fees in prosecuting the case.

In an example of judicial integrity, Judge Mandell reduced the fee claim to $90,000. Facts regarding said reduction can be gleened by viewing the URL listed at the end of this article.

Kudos to Judge Mandell for having the courage and fortitude to let it be known that the conduct of Abramson and Karton would not go unpunished.

As we speak (ca. April 2021), Judge Mandell continues to sit as a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge in Los Angeles, California.
