Attorney Anthony Tavitas of Munster, IN; ethical troll

The state of Indiana provided Anthony F. Tavitas with a law license in 1988 after he graduated from the University of Notre Dame School of Law.

The Indiana Disciplinary Commission found Tony guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

• Commingled client funds with personal funds
• Failed to maintain and preserve complete records of client trust account funds
• Failed to deliver promptly to a client funds the client is entitled to receive
• Failed to keep a deposit and disbursement journal containing a record of deposits to and withdrawals from an attorney trust account
• Failed to maintain relevant fee agreements
• Failed to keep reconciliation reports for a trust account
• Failed to reconcile internal trust account records with periodic bank account statements
• Improperly made cash withdrawals and electronic disbursements from a trust account
• Paid personal or business expenses directly from a trust account
• Failed to promptly withdraw fully earned fees from a trust account

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Indiana Supreme Court punished Tony by gifting him with a complimentary 90-day suspension of his law license.
