Attorney Jose Torres of White Plains, NY; scammer

The state of New York presented Jose Luis Torres with a law license in 1977 after he graduated from Columbia University Law School.

In one matter, U.S. District Court Judge Richard Sullivan admonished Jose for engaging in a variety of misconduct while he was representing plaintiffs in a copyright infringement case against the Spanish Broadcasting System Inc. (SBS) Jose claimed that SBS had willfully infringed copyrights of his clients by playing six songs on the radio.

In admonishing Jose, Judge Sullivan noted that Jose’s copyright infringement claim was contradicted by years of amended complaints he had filed by saying the companies didn’t hold any copyrights to the songs in question.

In his admonishment order, Judge Sullivan said in part:

  • "Nobody should think that you get to do what's gone on in this case, and we all just walk away and shrug our shoulders."
  • "This doesn't happen in federal court, people making statements that are directly contradicted by their attorneys and that constitute grave violations of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and potentially perjury.”
  • “So, this is really serious."

As we speak (September 2017), Jose practices Law Office of Jose Luis Torres at 512 Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains, New York.
