Judge Michael Miranda of Shandaken, NY; drunken convict

The State of New York provided Michael J. Miranda with a law license in 1975 after he graduated from the Brooklyn School of Law.

FYI: Mikey has had his significant snout firmly implanted in the public trough for the past thirty-four (34) years. Apparently, no self-respecting law firm in the greater Ulster County area was about to offer Mikey a good paying job.

The State Commission on Judicial Conduct found Doug guilty of the following misconduct.

  • On the evening of March 18, 2018, while he was in Orlando, Florida, Mikey drank several alcoholic beverages, and he was still feeling the effects of the alcohol the following morning
  • On the morning of March 19, 2018, at the airport in Orlando, Mikey consumed at least four or five glasses of vodka and seltzer from approximately 9:00 AM to 11 :00 AM, prior to boarding a flight to Albany, New York, that departed at approximately 11 :00 AM
  • During the flight to Albany, which lasted three hours, Mikey consumed at least another four vodka drinks
  • After arriving at the Albany airport, Mikey went to the parking lot to retrieve his car that bore “SMA” license plates, identifying it as belong to a judge
  • Mikey was still under the influence when he drove to his home in Shandaken, a distance of 70 miles, requiring about 90 minutes to two hours of driving time
  • While on the New York State Thruway, Mikey stopped at a service area in Hannacroix, New York, drank from a bottle of vodka that was in his car, then drove the remaining 47 miles or about one hour to his home
  • At about 5:30 pm Mikey lost control of his vehicle and crashed causing damage to the front of his car and property damage to two stop signs and two benches
  • The costs to repair Mikey’s car was $6,784
  • After his arrest, Mikey was charged with five Vehicle and Traffic Law (YTL) offenses: a misdemeanor for Driving While Intoxicated, Refusal to Take Breath Test, Failure to Stop at Stop Sign,  and Speed Not Reasonable and Prudent
  • Pled guilty to driving under the influence (DUI)

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Judicial Misfits sitting on the State Commission on Judicial Conduct punished Mikey by gifting him with a complimentary censure.

As we speak (ca. March 2020), Mikey continues to sit [only when sober] as a Shandaken Town Court Justice in Herkimer, New York.
