Rep. Barry Loudermilk (GA): Today’s “Imbecile” Award Winner

Congratulations to….

Rep. Barry Loudermilk (GA)

Today’s “Imbecile Award Winner

During a recent (early July 2015) town hall meeting in Kennesaw, Georgia, Rep. Loudermilk told the audience of his concerns regarding recent events, including the Supreme Court’s recent marriage equality ruling.

Barry criticized the Court’s marriage equality ruling by claiming the justices had overstepped their constitutional boundaries. He then asked the audience the following question regarding the court’s ruling.

  • “Do you know hat the actual term for what they did was?
  • “An opinion.”

This comment is totally bogus because if it were true, then no ruling by the court would have any affect. Put simply, Georgians could vote to require blacks to sit in the back of the bus and if the Surpeme Court ruled it was illegal discrimination, it would be an opinion and Georgians could thumb their collective noses at the ruling.

Barry then said:

  • “Hey, it was the Supreme Court’s opinion that Dred Scott and slavery was okay, did they get that right?”

That is a 1857 decision that has absolutely nothing to do with the court’s marriage equality ruling in 2015.

Barry finished off his asinine rant by trying to emulate the late Rev. Martin Luther King by saying, “We can overcome these things.”

Unfortunately, we can’t easily overcome the mindset of dyed-in-the-wool bigots and homophobes.

Congrats Barry; keep up the good work! We should let everyone know of your amazing record as one of Americas Least Appreciated “Imbeciles”; you are far too humble.
