Today’s Public Official Misfit is Delaware County, Ohio Sheriff Walter Davis III

Over the past five years (2005 to 2012), Walter Davis III has been the Delaware County, Ohio Sheriff. Delaware County is adjacent to Franklin County where the state capitol of Columbus is located.

Davis was being investigated for the improper use of taxpayer funds for personal use during a so-called business trip to Quantico, Virginia.

Walter traveled to Quantico in the summer of 2011 for FBI training. He allegedly used the money to pay for meals for himself and one other person and possible meetings with a female deputy with the sheriff’s office.

According to receipts obtained by The Delaware Gazette, Walter’s car was parked at the Marriott Crystal Gateway hotel where the female deputy was staying. FYI: Walter is married, but his wife isn’t a deputy Sheriff in Delaware County or anywhere else in Ohio.

It looks like Walter was engaged in a double screwing while in Quantico. One screwing involved ripping off the taxpayers and the other was screwing around on his wife. What a guy that Walter!

While the Ohio Attorney General’s Office was investigating misuse of public funds, Walter took the cowards route by resigning as Sheriff. Walter’s resignation was part of a deal he struck with the Attorney General’s office wherein also agreed to (a) withdraw from the November ballot, (b) never hold elected office again, (c) repay the county the money at issue, and (d) pay for any audit of the Sheriff’s department that may be required.

As part of his resignation agreement, the Attorney General’s office agreed not to prosecute Walter.

Hopefully the media reporting of Walter’s misconduct will not impact on his ability to obtain a job as a greeter at the Wal-Mart store on Columbus Pike (U.S. 23) in Lewis Center.
