Attorney James Hammis of Stoughton, WI; ethical leprechaun
The state of Wisconsin presented James E. Hammis with a law license in 1988 after he graduated from Marquette University Law School.
The Office of Lawyer Regulation (OLR) found Jimmy guilty of the following misconduct.
- Failed to cooperate with ethics investigators (Up Yours, said Jimmy!)
- Failed to follow required steps in handling client’s advance fee
- Knowingly made false statement to Board of bar Examiners
- Failed to notify clients and courts of his suspension as required
- Failed to timely refund unearned fee (cheater)
- Knowingly made false statement to trial judge re: availability to attend hearing
- Overbilled the State Public Defender’s office
- Engaged in the unlawful practice of law while license suspended
As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Wisconsin Supreme Courts punished Jimmy by gifting him with a complimentary 4-mont h suspension of his law license.
As we speak (ca. April 2014), Jimmy practices with the Hammis Law Offices, LLC at 315 East Main Street in Stoughton, Wisconsin.
