Attorney M. Christian Bottoms of Portland, OR; ethical misfit
The state of Oregon provided M. Christian Bottoms with a law license in 1996.
The Oregon State Bar found M. Christian guilty of the following misconduct:
In one matter, Willie Banks hired Bottoms to represent him in an auto theft case. Based on Bottoms’ request, the trial court rescheduled the trial date. On the date of the trial the deputy DA appeared; however, Bottoms didn’t appear and he failed to notify his client Banks or the court that he would not appear. Shortly thereafter, the DA offered a settlement to Bottoms to resolve the criminal case w/o going to trial. Bottoms failed to fully explain and communicate the offer to his client Banks.
Subsequently, the trial court schedule a hearing for Bottoms to appear before the presiding judge in the Washington County Circuit Court to answer for his failure to appear at the scheduled trial and for his failure to notify the court and his client Banks that he did not intend to appear. Banks and the DA appeared for the scheduled hearing; however Bottoms did not.
As a consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Oregon Supreme Court punished M. Christian by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.
As we speak (ca. October 2012) M. Christian practices law with the Law Offices of M. Christian Bottoms in Portland, Oregon.
