Attorney Bethany Bacci of Portland, OR; ethical goblin

The state of Oregon provided Bethany Anne Bacci with a law license in 2001 after she graduated from the Northwestern School of Law of Lewis & Clark College School of Law.

The Oregon State Bar found Beth guilty of the following misconduct.

• Improperly accepted funds from a non-lawyer
• Engaged in a conflict of interest
• Violated duty she owed to her client
• Negligent in  failing  to  fully  evaluate  the  substance  and  nature  of  her  communications with a prospective client that established an attorney-client relationship
• Negligent in her failure to heed  a  substantial  risk  that  circumstances  exist  or  that  a  result  will  follow,  which failure  was  a  deviation  from  the  standard  of  care  that  a  reasonable  lawyer  would exercise in said situation
• Conduct resulted  in  potential  injury  to  her  clients
• Refused to withdraw her representation of the wife during the pendency of the divorce action despite the fact that she had previously represented the husband

As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Oregon Supreme Court punished Beth by gifting her with a complimentary reprimand.
