Attorney Richard Hayes of Wilmington, NC; tax scofflaw

The state of North Carolina provided Richard Thomas Hayes with a law license in 1996 after she graduated from the University of North Carolina Law School.

The Committee on Professional Conduct found Dick guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Failed to promptly deliver or pay entrusted funds to third persons as directed by client
  • Failed to participate in good faith in fee dispute resolution process
  • Misconduct involved multiple offenses
  • Failed to fully cooperate with ethics investigators (Screw you, said Dick!)
  • Failed to properly maintain client ledgers
  • Failed to perform mandatory quarterly client trust account reconciliations
  • Failed to respond to client fee dispute petition
  • Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty or misrepresentation
  • Failed to timely false federal/state income tax returns for three (3) consecutive years
  • Engaged in conduct adversely reflecting on fitness to practice
  • Engaged in a pattern of misconduct

As a direct consequence of his misconduct the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Committee on Professional Conduct punished Dick by gifting him with a complimentary 3-year suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. October 2019) Dick practices in Wilmington, North Carolina.
