Attorney James Averitt of Cary, NC; lying thief

The state of North Carolina provided James I. Averitt with a law license in 2006 after he graduated from the University of Alabama Law School.

The Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar has charged Jimmy with engaging in the following misconduct, all of which took place while he was employed as corporate counsel.

  • Created counterfeit letter purporting to be from Augusta Nat’l Golf Club (ANGC) to the director of Marketing for the Averitt Corporation
  • Letter used ANGC logo w/o permission to so act
  • Forged signature of ANGC’s Senior Director of Business Affairs
  • Letter falsely stated employer was sponsor of 2015 Masters Tournament
  • Letter also falsely stated that, as appreciation for its sponsorship, employer would receive eight (8) four (4) day badges for admission to the Masters Tournament
  • Advertised the non-existent Masters badges on Craigslist
  • Brad Miller responded to Craigslist ad and agreed and paid $6,000 for 4 badges
  • Five days later, Jimmy mailed Mr. Miller an “empty envelope”
  • Seven days later, Jimmy mailed Miller a refund check for $6,000
  • Two days later, Jimmy’s check bounced due to insufficient funds (rubber)
  • Admitted to committing crime of forgery
  • Admitted to committing crime of obtaining property by false pretenses
  • Admitted to committing crime of writing bad check

All that’s left now is to see what if any punishment the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar mete out to Jimmy.

As we speak (ca. March 2016) Jimmy practices at 963 North Harrison Avenue in Cary, North Carolina.
