The state of New York presented Barry Saul Dolgoff with a law license in 1992 after he graduated from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School.

The Departmental Disciplinary Committee found Barry guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Withdrew $149,000 of client trust funds for personal use
  • Failed to make and retain required records concerning transactions involving funds received by him in relation to his practice of law
  • Failed to identify trust account as an “attorney special account”
  • Misappropriated (stole) client funds
  • Commingled client funds with personal funds
  • Engaged in conduct adversely reflecting on fitness to practice
  • Failed to maintain required trust records for seven years
  • Failed to make contemporaneous and accurate entries of all financial transactions in his records of receipts and disbursements
  • Disregarded a ruling of a tribunal during course of a proceeding
  • Engaged in conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit, or misrepresentation

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Departmental Disciplinary Committee punished Barry by gifting him with a complimentary 1-year suspension of his law license.
