Attorney Christopher Basner of Haddonfield, NJ; ethical troll

The state of New Jersey presented Christopher J. Basner with a law license in 2008 after he graduated from Washington University School of Law. Chris also obtained a license to practice in Pennsylvania in 2008.

The New Jersey Office of Attorney Ethics found Chris guilty of engaging in the following misconduct

  • Failed to cooperate with ethics investigators (Screw you, said Wayne!)
  • Failed to communicate with a client
  • Engaged in gross neglect of client matter
  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Failed to comply with recordkeeping rules
  • Failed to set forth in writing the basis or rate of fee
  • Failed to take steps reasonably practicable to protect a client’s interests
  • Failed to explain a matter to a client to the extent reasonably necessary to permit the client to make informed decisions regarding the representation
  • Engaged in a pattern of neglect
  • Failed to withdraw client representation when required to so act
  • Failed to expedite client litigation
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  • Made false statement of material fact or law to a tribunal
  • Engaged in conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit or misrepresentation
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  • Asserted an issue with no basis in fact or law

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the New Jersey Supreme Court punished Wayne by gifting him with a complimentary 2-year suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. February 2024), Chris practices his so-called brand of law in Newark, New Jersey.
