Attorney Hugh Abrahamson of Omaha; ethical dwarf

The state of Nebraska presented Hugh I. Abrahamson with a law license in 1985.

In one matter, Hugh was hired by Beverly Doyle in a legal separation from her husband Wayne Oppenheim. Subsequently, the separation action turned into a divorce proceeding.

Hugh sent monthly statements for his attorney fees to Beverly; which she did not pay at the time. According to the fee agreement, Hugh was allowed to deduct his attorney fees from any funds awarded to Beverly.

As a result of the divorce proceeding, the marital house was sold. The net proceeds of the sale were $46,338. Beverly claimed she was entitled to the entire proceeds from the sale, a claim that Oppenheim disputed. Hugh then deposited the $46,338 into his attorney trust account.

After the trial court awarded the entire $46,338 to Beverly, Hugh issued her a check for $21,702 and paid himself $24,636 as attorney fees. Beverly was not happy and failed in her attempt to negotiate a final fee with Hugh. She then filed an ethics complaint with the State Bar.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on Nebraska Supreme Court punished Hugh by gifting him with a complimentary 90-day suspension of his law license.

As one would expect, this wasn’t Hugh’s 1st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree. He previously received a complimentary reprimand for engaging in a variety of misconduct.

As we speak (ca. Sept 2012) Hugh practices at 6901 Dodge Street in Omaha, Nebraska.
