Attorney Anthony Ortiz of Lawrence, MA; ethical leprechaun

The state of Massachusetts presented Anthony K. Ortiz with a law license in 1985 after he graduated from Boston University School of Law.

The Board of Bar Overseers found Tony guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Deposited insurance settlement check of $14,000 into his account without obtaining the signatures of his client, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and Lawrence General Hospital
  • Failed to advise Commonwealth of receipt of $14,000 checks despite his knowledge that it was owed an amount certain from said settlement as reimbursement via the lien of MassHealth
  • Only reimbursed MassHealth after ethics complaint filed against him
  • Failed to communicate the scope and terms of the engagement in writing at the commencement of the representation or within a reasonable time thereafter

As one would suspect, this wasn’t Tony’s First bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree. He previously received a complimentary admonition for engaging in a variety of misconduct.

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Board of Bar Overseers punished Tony by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. December 2019) Tony practices with the Law Office of Anthony K. Ortiz at 420 Common Street in Lawrence, Massachusetts.

CAUTION: Tony does not carry legal malpractice insurance
