Attorney Michael Fay of Cedar Rapids; repeat offender

 
The state of Iowa presented Michael W. Fay with a law license in 1966 after he graduated from the University of Wyoming Law School.
 
The Iowa Supreme Court Disciplinary Gerald found Mike guilty of the following misconduct.
 
Mike’s 1st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree
 
Mike arranged with Midwestern Academic Research Services Inc., a Wisconsin corporation engaged in the sale of living trusts through its agents to citizens of Iowa. Therefore, Mike was employed by Midwestern Research to provide individual consultations to its customers concerning living trusts.
 
Mike’s conduct involved the illegal practice of law by representing a client in Wisconsin when he wasn’t licensed in that state. In addition, Mike aided Midwestern in illegally practicing law in Iowa.
 
As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Iowa Supreme Court punished Mike by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.
 
Mike’s 2nd bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree
  • Engaged in conduct adversely reflecting on fitness to practice law
  • Improperly entered into a business transaction with a client
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  • Engaged in conduct involving a conflict of interest
  • Misconduct was harmful to client
As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Iowa Supreme Court punished Mike by gifting him with a complimentary 30-day suspension of his law license.
 
As we speak (ca. January 2014), Mike practices with the Fay Law Offices at 1609 Arizona Avenue NE in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
