Attorney Paul M. Bach of Northbrook, IL; crook

The state of Illinois presented Paul Matthew Bach with a law license in 1992.

The Disciplinary Commission found Paul guilty of the following misconduct.
  1. Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty or misrepresentation
  2. Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  3. Engaged in conduct tending to bring the legal profession into disrepute
  4. Failed to promptly deliver property/funds to third party as required
  5. Converted client funds to personal use (crook)
In one matter, Paul agreed to represent a client in a bankruptcy case for a flat fee of $2,700. The bankruptcy trustee agreed to allow Paul’s client to pay $2,316 a month to the trustee in order to liquidate his debts under the Chapter 13 filing.

Shortly after this agreement, the client began sending monthly checks of $2,316 to Paul, which he was then required to send to the bankruptcy trustee. After the bankruptcy trustee contacted the client and asked why he hadn’t made any of the promised monthly payments, he discovered that Paul had converted the funds to pay his personal expenses.

Because Attorney Misfits in Illinois are held to a much lower standard of conduct then everyone else, Paul was never criminally charged with stealing his client’s money.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Illinois Supreme Court punished Paul by gifting him with a complimentary censure 60-day suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. August 2012) Paul practices with the Bach Law Offices in Northbrook, Illinois.
