Attorney Matthew Peek of Champaign, IL; slacker, loser

The state of Illinois presented Matthew Eric Peek with a law license in 2013 after he graduated from Southern Illinois University School of Law.

The Disciplinary Commission found Matty guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Received and held 13 garnishment checks owed to a client but did not deposit them in a client trust account
  • Failed to communicate with his client
  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Failed to keep client informed of status of matter
  • Failed to respond to a motion for summary judgment on client behalf
  • Failed to communicate with his clients about the summary judgment motion
  • Failed to inform his clients that a judgment was entered against them
  • Made gratuitous comments of a sexual nature to opposing counsel and a paralegal
  • Did not timely respond to his client’s inquiries about settlement checks
  • Failed to provide an accounting of client funds to his client
  • Failed to promptly deliver garnishment funds owed to his client
  • Failed to promptly inform the client of a decision or circumstance that required the client’s informed consent
  • Failed to reasonably consult with the client about the means by which the client’s objectives were to be accomplished
  • Failed to promptly comply with reasonable requests for information
  • Used means that had no substantial purpose other than to embarrass, delay, or burden a third person

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Illinois Supreme Court punished Matty by gifting him with a complimentary 6-month suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. August 2023), Matty practices his so-called brand of law in Champaign, Illinois.
