Attorney Michael Smith of Roselle, IL; imbecile, slacker

The state of Illinois presented Michael T. Smith with a law license in 1981 after he graduated from John Marshall Law School.

The Illinois Registration and Disciplinary Commission found Mike guilty of the following misconduct.

• Failed to provide competent representation (imbecile)
• Failed to consult with client as to means by which objectives of representation were to be pursued
• Advanced claim he knew was unwarranted under existing law
• Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
• Failed to explain matter to extent necessary to permit client to make informed decisions regarding the representation
• Brought proceeding or asserted an issue that was frivolous
• Failed to take reasonable steps to expedite litigation
• Made statement of material fact or law to tribunal he knew or should have known was false
• Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice

As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Illinois Supreme Court punished Mike by gifting him with a complimentary censure.

As we speak (August 2016), Mike practices with the Law Offices of Michael Smith PC at 440 West Irving Park Road in Roselle, Illinois.
