Attorney Maria Avinante of Honolulu; cheating slacker

The state Hawaii presented Maria Corazon Avinante with a law license in 1978 after she graduated from California Western University School of Law.

Disciplinary Counsel found Maria guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

• Engaged in a pattern of misconduct
• Misconduct involved multiple violations of the Rules of Conduct
• Lied to bar authorities (Screw you, said Maria!)
• Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
• Commingled client funds with personal funds (cheater)
• Applied $1,100 in unearned fees to her own personal use
• Breached fiduciary duties owed to her client
• Failed to re-submit motion for divorce via public notice for seven months
• Misappropriated [stole] portion of client funds
• Failed to promptly provide client with accounting fees received

As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Hawaii Supreme Court punished Maria by gifting her a complimentary 30-day suspension of her law license.

As we speak (ca. April 2019), Maria practices with the Law Office of M. Cora Avinante at 550 Halekauwila Street in Honolulu, Hawaii.
