Attorney Cynthia Smith of Washington, DC; ethical misfit

The state of Virginia presented Cynthia Gayle Smith with a law license in 2008.

The Virginia State Bar Disciplinary Board found Cynthia guilty of the following misconduct.
  • Failed to safeguard client funds
  • Failed to maintain separate client trust accounts as required
  • Failed to maintain records of all funds she received from her clients
  • Never maintained any books or records relating to client funds
  • Failed to ever perform required escrow and accounting procedures as rules required
In one matter, Cynthia was hired to represent a client to file a habeas corpus petition. The client’s mother paid Cynthia $5,000. Upon receipt of the $5,000, Cynthia failed to deposit the funds into a client trust account as required by the rules.

As a consequence of her misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Disciplinary Board punished Cynthia by giving her with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. July 2013), Cynthia practices at 1918 Trenton Place in Washington, DC.
