Attorney Thomas Ryan of Danbury, CT; ethical dwarf

The state of Connecticut provided Thomas J. Ryan with a law license in 1973.

The Statewide Grievance Committee found Thomas guilty of the following misconduct.
  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Failed to keep client informed of status of insurance claim
  • Allowed two-year limitation period to file claim to expire
In one matter, Thomas represented a client whose store was burglarized. The client reported certain items missing from his store to the police department.

Shortly thereafter, Thomas put the client’s insurer on notice of his losses. Thomas wrote to the insurance company and forwarded documents to it on his client’s behalf. In his letter to the insurer, Thomas referred to his client as “my client.”

The client’s insurance policy states that legal action must be initiated within two years of the date on which the alleged loss occurred. As a result of Thomas’ gross negligence and/or incompetence, his client was forever barred from bringing this claim against his insurer.

Despite admitting to the insurance company in writing on two or more occasions that he was the attorney representing the client for his losses, Thomas had the temerity to actually claim to the Grievance Committee that he never represented the client in regards to the insurance claim.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Statewide Grievance Committee punished Thomas by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. March 2013) Thomas practices at 57 North Street in Danbury, Connecticut.
