Attorney Douglas Haynes of Pueblo, CO; ethical misfit  

The state of Colorado provided Douglas Jay Haynes with a law license in 1989 after he graduated from the University of Denver Law School.

The Colorado State Bar found Doug guilty of the following misconduct.

In one matter, Doug failed to ensure that his non-lawyer legal assistant was following court rules concerning returns of service and garnishments, instead allowing her to use his signature stamp, which implied to the court that he had reviewed pleadings and documents when he had not.

Doug’s failure to supervise led to approximately 300 purported writs of garnishment being served without issuance by the court or payment of the proper fees.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Colorado Supreme Court punished Doug by gifting him with a complimentary stayed 60-day suspension of his law license.

In truth, the comedians sitting on the Colorado Supreme Court didn’t mete out any meaningful punishment to Doug.
