Attorney J. Bert Vargas of Tucson; repeat offender

 

The state of Arizona presented J. Bert Vargas with a law license in 1985 after he graduated from Whittier University Law School.

 

The Arizona State Bar found Vargas guilty of the following misconduct.

 

As a consequence of his misconduct, the Cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Arizona Supreme Court punished Vargas by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

 

Vargas’ 1st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

 

  • Involved in submitting false document while employed as assistant US attorney
  • Attempted to mislead ethics investigators
  • Pleaded guilty to federal crime by misappropriating a ram’s head trophy that his office had received via the prosecution of a criminal defendant
  • Purchased permit to hunt and take one big horn ram, but took two in violation of federal law

As a consequence of his misconduct, the Cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Arizona Supreme Court punished Vargas by gifting him with a complimentary 1-year suspension of his law license.

 

Vargas’ 2nd bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

 

  • Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty or misrepresentation
  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Failed to cooperate with State Bar investigators (Up Yours, said Mark!)
  • Failed to take necessary steps to protect client’s interests after being discharged
  • Totally ignorant of the law and rules of criminal procedure

As a consequence of his misconduct, the Cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Arizona Supreme Court punished Vargas by gifting him with a complimentary censure.

 

As we speak (ca. February 2015) Vargas practices with the BV Law Firm PLLC at 2509 North Campbell Avenue in Tucson, Arizona.
