Judge Francis Segars-Andrews of Mt. Pleasant, SC; imbecile

The state of South Carolina presented Francis P. Segars-Andrews with a law license in 1984 after she graduated from the University of South Carolina Law School.

Unfortunately, Judge Segars-Andrews sat as a family court judge beginning in 1993 and remained on the bench for nineteen (19) years.

In late 2009, South Carolina’s Judicial Merit Selection Review Commission ruled that Judge Segars-Andrews was unqualified (aka, incompetent) to serve on the bench. The Commission vote was 9 to 1 in concluding that Judge Segars-Andrews was an ignoramus.

The main reason the Commission found Segars-Andrews unfit was because of her previous handling of a divorce case. In that case, Segars-Andrews failed to disqualify herself even after she learned that the lawyer for the ex-wife, Becky Simpson, had shared in a large sum with a lawyer who worked in the same firm as Segars-Andrews husband, Mark Andrews. In layman’s terms, Segars-Andrews was either to incompetent to understand the term “the appearance of a conflict of interest” or she remained on the case for the sole purpose of rendering a favorable decision for a friend.

An ethics charge was filed against Francis for engaging in a conflict of interest by remaining on his divorce case. However, the enablers for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Judicial Commission, as expected, refused to take any action against her.

As a consequence of her misconduct, Francis was removed from the bench.

In a lame effort at levity, Francis had the chutzpah to file a lawsuit with the South Carolina Supreme Court challenging the Merit Commission’s ruling that she was incompetent. Clearly, she missed her calling as a standup comedian, right?

As we speak (ca. July 2013), Francis practices with Andrews Mediation and Law Firm at 755 Johnnie Dodds Blvd in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina.
