Attorney Laurence Elgin of DC; ethical leprechaun

The DC Bar presented Laurence A. Elgin with a law license in 1969.

The DC Bar Counsel found Larry guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Improperly collected excessive legal fees by billing client’s credit card
  • Failed to consult with client re: lawsuit filed against her re: Larry’s charges
  • Entered into settlement with client’s credit card company w/o advising client or giving her opportunity to determine whether her interests were sufficiently protected
  • Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty or misrepresentation
  • Failed to keep client informed of status of legal matter
  • Failed to explain matter necessary to allow client to make informed decisions re: representation
  • Failed to provide client with written statement as to basis for fees
  • Engaged in a conflict of interest
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice

As a consequence of him misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the DC Bar Counsel punished Larry by gifting him with a complimentary 180-day suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. January 2015), Larry practices with the Laurence A. Elgin Law Offices at 601 Pennsylvania Avenue NW in Washington, DD.
