Justice Antonin Scalia: Today’s “Screwball” Award Winner

Congratulations to….

Justice Antonin Scalia

Today’s “Screwball” Award Winner

This isn’t the first Award presented to Antonin. In the past, he has been the recipient of two (2) Awards in various categories and/or the subject of two (2) opinion pieces. Those awards and opinion pieces are listed at the end of this article and can be viewed by going to the listed categories.

Scalia has spent thirty-seven (37) years of his adult life after graduating from law school with his significant snout firmly implanted in the public trough.

Scalia is heralded by right wing conservatives as their favorite justice on the U.S. Supreme Court.

During a recent interview with Radio Television Suisse in Switzerland, Scalia felt compelled to join the debate over the Senate’s recent (Dec 2014) torture report by saying it’s hard to rule out the use of extreme measures to extract information if millions of lives were threatened. (Mark Sherman, Associated Press)

Scalia then went on to say:

  • “Listen, I think it's very facile (glib) for people to say, 'Oh, torture is terrible.'”
  • “You posit (assume) the situation where a person that you know for sure knows the location of a nuclear bomb that has been planted in Los Angeles and will kill millions of people.”
  • “You think it's clear that you cannot use extreme measures to get that information out of that?”

Scalia and those of his ilk actually believe that it was acceptable for us to execute Japanese soldiers who engaged in torture by water-boarding American soldiers. However, these same hypocrites have an opposite opinion when Americans torture those guys (wink, wink) who they think may be terrorists.

One thing we can be sure of is that if a CIA official was prosecuted for and convicted of war crimes for water-boarding suspected terrorists, Scalia would have no problem in voting to overturn the conviction along with his compatriots on the court, Justices Alito, Thomas, Kennedy and Chief Justice Roberts.

And neither Scalia nor the other four justices would find the hanging of Japanese soldiers for water-boarding American GIs to be compelling evidence to uphold the conviction.

Congrats Antonin; keep up the good work! We should let everyone know of your amazing record as one of Americas Least Appreciated “Screwballs”; you are far too humble.
