The state of Iowa provided Richard J. Murphy with a law license in 1964 after he graduated from Drake University Law School.

The Iowa Supreme Court Disciplinary Counsel found Dick guilty of the following misconduct.

• Engaged in illegal conduct
• Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty or misrepresentation
• Misconduct exhibited pattern of deceit
• Engaged in a conflict of interest
• Repeatedly engaged in deceit and self-dealing involving a guardianship matter relating to an elderly woman

As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Iowa Supreme Court punished Dick by gifting him with another complimentary 18-month suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. November 2014), Dick practices with the Murphy Law Office in Osceola, Iowa.
