Attorney John Gailey of Ft. Dodge, IA; ethical gremlin

The state of Iowa provided John W. Gailey with a law license in 1962 after he graduated from the University of Iowa Law School.

The Iowa Supreme Court Disciplinary Counsel found Johnny guilty of the following misconduct.

In one matter, Johnny’s son Denis told him that the state planned to charge Denis with sexual abuse of his stepdaughter. Johnny said he would voluntarily surrender his son Denis, but before he could do so his son kidnapped his spouse and biological child. Denis was later arrested and became the subject of a no-contact order.

Later on Johnny delivered a letter from his son to his son’s wife that he knew was in violation of the no-contact court order, and he did so without the knowledge of the wife’s attorney. The letter encouraged the wife to change her story of what really happened, and Johnny indicated that might help her financially in the pending divorce case.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Iowa Supreme Court punished Johnny by gifting him with a complimentary 60-day suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. November 2014), Johnny practices at 704 Central Avenue in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
