Attorney James Roe of Seattle; potty mouth bigot

The state state of Washington presented James M. Roe with a law license in 1978 after he graduated from Gonzaga University Law School.

The Washington State Bar found Jimmy guilty of the following misconduct.

Jimmy’s 1^st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

• Failed to respect the rights of third persons

   

• Found in contempt of court

  

In one matter, Jimmy represented a criminal defendant on an assault charge with a def

ense of self-defense in Bothell Municipal Court. At the conclusion of a three day trial, the jury rendered a verdict of not guilty.

Following the verdict, the prosecutor moved to stay the verdict on costs and fees. During the argument on the motion, Roe interrupted and referred to the prosecutor by his first name.

When the prosecutor asked Jimmy to address him by his surname, Jimmy responded, "It’s [prosecutor’s first name] to me, boy, and . . . you remember that." The prosecutor was an African American. Jimmy is a Caucasian.

As a result of Jimmy’s bigoted comments, , the Bothell Municipal Court found Jimmy in contempt of court for addressing counsel in a disrespectful manner, addressing counsel with a racial slur, and creating disorder in the court.

The court then fined Jimmy $500; perform 40 hours of community service, apologize to the prosecutor on the record; and complete a Cultural Diversity Education Program. Rumor has it that as to the diversity program, Jimmy opted to attend the David Duke Institute for Race

Relations located in Shreveport, Louisiana.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Washington Supreme Court punished Jimmy by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

• Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
• Committed a criminal act
• Engaged in conduct adversely reflecting on fitness to practice law
• Committed an unjustified act of assault on a client in the courthouse
