Attorney Thomas Sherwood of Sun City Center, FL; ethical gremlin

The state of Florida provided Thomas Joel Sherwood with a law license in 1976 after he graduated from the New England Law School.

The Florida State Bar found Tommy guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Failed to obtain promised loan modification results for clients
  • Improperly split fees with non-lawyer employees
  • Failed to keep clients informed as to status of legal matter
  • Failed to properly supervise office staff
  • Engaged in the illegal practice of law in states he wasn’t licensed in

Over the course of three years, twenty-five (25) ethics complaints were filed with the State Bar against Tommy. At the time, Tommy was in business with business with a non-lawyer providing loan modifications and debt resolutions.

Subsequently, the business folded into Tommy’s law firm. Several non-lawyer employees provided services for clients who were advised that Sherwood was performing the services when in fact he wasn't.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Florida Supreme Court punished Tommy by gifting him with a complimentary 90-day suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. July 2014) Tommy practices in Sun City Center, Florida.
