Attorney Thomas Gilbert of Leland, MI; liar, illegal substance abuser

In a prior life, Thomas Gilbert was a District Court Judge in Leland, Michigan, which is in close proximity to Traverse City.

In October 2002, Judge Thomas Gilbert attended a Rolling Stones concert at Ford Field in Detroit.

During the concert, an allegedly unknown person passed a marijuana cigarette (a controlled substance) down the aisle where Tommy was sitting.

Tommy took the joint, puffed it, and then passed it down the aisle.

When the joint was returned back down the aisle in the opposite direction, again passing Tommy, he puffed on the joint a second time, and passed it along.

On Nov. 6, 2002, Tommy took a voluntary leave of absence (with pay of course).

Tommy’s conduct was well-publicized in the Michigan Press, and was the subject of a joke by comedian Jay Leno on the Tonight Show.

Tommy obtained a substance abuse evaluation by the State Bar of Michigan Lawyers/Judges Assistance Program (they’re like really, really busy), and later completed an in-patient substance abuse treatment program at Hazelden Foundation in Center City, Minnesota from Nov. 17 to Dec. 14, 2002.

Michigan taxpayers were hosed by having to pay $11,100 in wages to Tommy while he was in Minnesota. Isn’t that special?

After claiming to have successfully completed in the in-patient treatment program, Tommy continued to attend AA meetings, and consulted with others facing abuse problems to form a support network.

Allegedly, some of the members of the support network were (a) Courtney Love, (b) Nick Nolte and (c) Charlie Sheen.

Tommy’s Hyperbolic (BS) Defenses and/or Admissions
Tommy admitted that he used marijuana about twice a year and that he did so since becoming a judge. Oh sure – about twice a year? Tommy must think everyone in Michigan just had their “umbilical chords detached.”

If you believe this crap, then you’d likely believe that Madonna (another Michigander) was nominated by Pope John Paul II to be his official spokesperson as to the efficacy of monogamous relationships.
