Justice Max Baer (PA); apologist for crooked lawyers

The state of Pennsylvania presented Max Baer with a law license in 1975 after he graduated from Duquesne University Law School.

Max has spent the last twenty-five (25) years with his significant snout firmly implanted in the public trough. Apparently, no self respecting law firms in Pennsylvania were about to offer Max a good paying job.

The State Supreme Court is the final arbiter when it comes to meting out punishment to unethical and/or dishonest attorneys.

Attorney William Perrone was found guilty of defrauding the city of Philadelphia out of $130,000 by overbilling for work he claimed as a court-appointed counsel for indigent criminal defendants.

When Perrone’s case was originally decided by the Supreme Court, the court along with Max, decided to order that he be disbarred.

However, several years later, Max, along with several other comedians on the Court voted to reinstate Perrone’s law license despite the fact that he’s a convicted thief.

Apparently, Max felt that Perrone deserved another chance to earn a dishonest living as a practicing attorney in Pennsylvania.

As we speak (ca. March 2014), Max remains sitting as an Associate Justice on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
