Judge William Wertheimer of NJ; anti-Semite, Bigot
Unfortunately, for the good folks of Elizabeth, New Jersey, Judge William Wertheimer continues (ca. 1/27/10) to sit on the Superior Court.
On Aug. 11, 2009, the New Jersey Committee on Judicial Conduct filed charges against Judge William Wertheimer for making racist remark to attorney William L. Gold of Bendit Weinstock, P.C. during a hearing.
On April 8, 2009, attorney William Gold advised Judge William Wertheimer that he needed to leave the court by 4:00 p.m. because it was the first night of Passover and he planned to attend a Seter.
Judge William Wertheimer then called Mr. Gold to the bench and asked him if he should inform the jury that the trial would conclude for the day so that one or both counsel could attend a “Bund meeting.”
The Bund is an infamous anti-Semitic organization with ties to Adolph Hitler’s Nazi regime whose members participated in various anti-Semitic demonstrations between 1936 and 1939.
An unreliable source indicated that Judge William Wertheimer is an honor graduate of the Josef Goebbels’ School of Journalism and Religious Tolerance located in Berlin.

On June 5, 2007, the Judicial Commission issued Judge William Wertheimer a “complimentary” letter of caution for his misconduct on three several occasions in Nov. 2004 and Oct. 2006, which are:
In Nov. 2005, in the presence of a prosecutor of Nigerian descent, he stated, that most Nigerians who come through the court are in handcuffs.
In Oct. 2006, while responding to why the jury was hung, he told the prosecutor that he felt he had a good shot at a guilty verdict except that she had selected two “lower class blacks.”
Second bite at the Judicial Misfit Tree
On Dec. 19, 2001, the Judicial Commission issued Judge William Wertheimer a “complimentary” letter of admonition for presiding over a trial despite his knowledge that this created a clear conflict of interest.
In this instance, the sheriff’s officer that worked in Judge William Wertheimer’s court was the brother of the defendant appearing before him.
Judge William Wertheimer’s Laughable Defense
Judge Wertheimer had the chutzpah to defend his anti-Semitic by claiming he was “joking.”
The Bigot then went on to claim the anti-Semitic statement was actually made as part of an effort to be religiously sensitive. This hyperbolic (BS) defense doesn’t pass the involuntary laugh test.
This asinine statement is akin to the defense of ex-Judge Matt Zepeda of Pearland, Texas (ca. 2002) when he called an inmate a “fuckin-nigger.” Judge Zepeda had the audacity to defend his racist comment by stating it was “merely a slip of the tong

In truth, Judge William Wertheimer’s novel defenses further prove that in addition to being a bigot, he’s also a certified moron.
Conclusion
The Judicial Commission has scheduled a hearing on Judge William Wertheimer’s misconduct for Feb. 18, 2010.
Given the fact that judges in New Jersey and elsewhere are held to a “lower standard of conduct” than we are, I suspect that the Commission will punish Judge William Wertheimer by gifting him with a “complimentary” reprimand.
