Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, scofflaw, ethically indigent From 1995 through 2000, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa was a state assemblyman representing the 45th District in Los Angeles. Due to term limits, Antonio Villaraigosa was prohibited from running for reelection after his term ended in December 2000.
As a result of being termed out of the state assembly, Villaraigosa decided in early 2000 to run for Mayor of Los Angeles. In doing so, he felt that all of the taxpayers of California had a duty to contribute to his campaign.
From 1995 to 1999, Antonio Villaraigosa spent $4,888 to purchase 4,296 gallons of fuel to operate his taxpayer funded vehicle. However, even though he was termed out in 2000, Antonio Villaraigosa spent $8,169.76 to purchase 5,843 gallons of fuel in 2000. (See text box at end of article)
It is patently clear that Antonio Villaraigosa’s use of 5,843 gallons of fuel in 2000 was for the purpose of his run for Mayor of Los Angeles. If it wasn’t, then how does he explain that he only required 334 gallons of fuel to serve his constituents in 1999?
The text box below clearly demonstrates that someone other than Villaraigosa was purchasing fuel via the use of a state gas charge card. If not, then Antonio Villaraigosa should be nominated for an award from Ripley’s Believe it or Not as the quintessential “workaholic.”

And lastly, do you really think that Antonio Villaraigosa reported and actually paid the IRS and the State of California income taxes for his personal use of a state car and fuel?
