Attorney Arthur Bartlett of Charlotte; scammer, loser

The state of North Carolina presented Arthur Kevin Bartlett with a law license in 2002 after he graduated from the University of Michigan Law School.

The Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar found Arthur guilty of the following misconduct.

While employed with the law firm of Kennedy, Covington, Lodell and Hickman, LLP, Arthur was told by another attorney in the firm that the firm was representing Lending Tree, Inc. in regards to a pending transaction wherein Lending Tree was to be acquired by USA Interactive Corp. During the same conversation, Arthur was asked to perform legal research concerning a benefits plan issue for Lending Tree relevant to the transaction.

After learning about the pending transaction, Arthur purchased 450 shares of Lending Tree at $13 per share. Subsequently, Lending Tree and USA Interactive announced an agreement for USA to purchase all of Lending Tree’s outstanding stock. On the same day Arthur sold his 450 shares at $20.80 per share and thereby turned a profit of $4,272.

Two months later the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) became aware of Arthur’s conduct and brought an action against him in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina based on violations of securities laws. Three months later, Arthur settled the matter with the SEC by forfeiting the $4,272 he realized in illegal gains.

As a consequence of his misconduct the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar punished Arthur by gifting him with a complimentary stayed 1-year suspension of her law license.

In truth, the comedians sitting on the Grievance Committee didn’t mete out any meaningful punishment to Arthur.

As we speak (ca. January 2014) Arthur practices at 1431 Elizabeth Avenue in Charlotte, North Carolina.
