Attorney John Ruiz of Miami; lying loser

The state of Florida presented John Hasan Ruiz with a law license in 1992 after he graduated from Nova Southeastern University Law School.

The Florida State Bar found John guilty of the following misconduct.

In one matter, a tenant fell and was injured at an apartment complex owned by Johnny. When she asked for insurance information, Johnny told her that the co-owner had allowed the insurance policy on the property to lapse, and therefore, that the apartment was uninsured.

Johnny subsequently sold the apartment for more than $2 million and received $375,000 of income from the closing.

When the tenant's case went to trial, Johnny failed to disclose that he was a director and 50 percent shareholder of the owner corporation, and that the corporation had sold its only asset, the apartment complex.

The trial court subsequently ruled in favor of the tenant, which led to Johnny being forced to pay a judgment and attorney fees to the tenant in excess of $200,000.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits in Florida sitting on the Florida Supreme Court punished John by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. December 2013) John practices with the Law Offices of La Ley con John J. Ruiz, PA at 4182 SW 74th Court in Miami, Florida.
