Attorney Daniel Saxton of Atlanta; ethical goblin

The state of Georgia presented Daniel Jay Saxton with a law license in 1977 after he graduated from John Marshall Law School in Atlanta, Georgia.

Disciplinary Counsel for the Rhode Island Supreme Court recently charged Daniel with the following misconduct.

Daniel “caused solicitation letters to be mailed” to about a dozen Rhode Island residents in February 2013, advising them that their properties were going to be auctioned “on the Providence County Courthouse steps” on a particular date and “suggested that the recipient immediately contact [him] for assistance in mortgage negotiation and settlement.” (Tracy Breton, Providence Journal)

One of the property owners was offended by the solicitation, and contacted a Rhode Island attorney who subsequently forwarded the solicitation to Disciplinary Counsel.

Of course there is no dispute that Danny Boy was engaged in the illegal practice of law since he wasn’t licensed in Rhode Island. As is the case in California, practicing law without a license is a criminal offense.

All that’s left now is to wait and see what punishment the Rhode Island Supreme Court metes out to Danny.

As we speak (ca. September 2013), Daniel practices Freeman Saxton & Associates PC at 3400 Peachtree Road in Atlanta, Georgia.
