Attorney Richard Rhinehart of Sioux City; ethical leprechaun

The state of Iowa presented Richard Scott Rhinehart with a law license in 1981 after he graduated from the University of Iowa Law School.

The Iowa Supreme Court Attorney Disciplinary Board found Richard Guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Perpetrated a forensic fraud on a family court judge
  • Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty or misrepresentation
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  • Charged and collected a clearly unreasonable fee (cheater)
  • Failed to maintain disputed fees in trust account as required

During the pendency of his own divorce, Richard found it acceptable to engage in forensic fraud in attempting to prevent his ex-wife from succeeding in her claims to distribution of marital assets when he intentionally concealed from her and the court a number of contingent fee cases he was then pursuing.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Iowa Supreme Court Attorney Disciplinary Board punished Richard by gifting him with a complimentary 60-day suspension of his law license.
